The Law Offices of Thomas J. Powell handles legal matters primarily in the following practice areas: Construction Law and Litigation, Commercial Litigation, Contract Law, Government Contracts and Employment Law.
The firm opened in July 2001 with the goal of providing high quality legal services, including litigation and trial representation services, to clients from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines.
Prior to opening his own law office, Mr. Powell worked extensively on complex litigation matters, primarily in the construction and government contract fields, for one of America's premier construction law firms. Upon opening his law offices, and in an effort to provide his clients with the best possible service on litigation matters, Mr. Powell obtained an L.L.M. (Master of Laws) in Trial Advocacy from the Beasley School of Law at Temple University. This training, combined with his engineering background and over 20 years of experience as a practicing attorney, has provided Mr. Powell with the skills with which to serve a diverse client base. While the firm has traditionally practiced in the areas of contracts, government contracts and construction, it has expanded to practice other types of litigation, including employment litigation, commercial litigation, residential construction, and defamation law. In addition, the firm acts as corporate counsel to a number of Virginia companies.
When necessary, and in light of the size and complexity of the matter at hand, the firm utilizes co-counsel to assist in trial preparation and at trial. The firm has a group of dedicated co-counsel available at all times, should the need arise.
